A Graduation Ready Smile

Graduation is a major milestone for everybody, and the time is almost upon us once more! Future graduates are likely looking now to get their suits and dresses, if they haven’t done so already. However, in the excitement of it all, don’t forget to think about the quality of your smile as you walk that stage!

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a popular first choice in putting together a graduation ready smile. Whitening takes time! Book your appointments earlier rather than later to avoid last minute stalls. Moreover, the sooner you get started, the more time your teeth have to get whiter, and the more effective the treatment will be. Talk to your dentist to find out what method of tooth whitening would work best for you.

Keep Your Pearly Whites… White!

Having gone through all the painstaking effort of getting your teeth nice and white, the last thing you’d want to do is to ruin all your hard work! Be mindful of the kinds of food that you’re letting pass over your teeth between now and your graduation day. In particular, try to avoid acidic or citrus fruits, as the acid content will wear away enamel and expose the yellow coloured dentin underneath. Coffee drinkers may be disgruntled to hear that their favourite drink is also to be avoided for best results. The tannins inside coffee have been shown to increase tooth staining and discolouration. Finally, avoid sodas and sugary beverages, which contain both high acid content and high sugar content.

What to do on the big day!

The day has finally arrived! In your excitement, make sure not to forget to give your teeth a good scrub before you head out the door for your hair or suit appointment. Although it may feel last minute, a quick brush right before the big event can really make a difference in your smile. If you’re going to be snacking right before, bring along a small oral hygiene kit to give your teeth another quick scrub to get rid of any food debris. Alternatively, avoid snacking altogether and plan your meals around your stage time. If you’ve got a banquet later in the evening, opt for cooler colours rather than reds and oranges, which will bring out the yellow in your teeth more.   Finally, don’t forget to enjoy yourself and be prepared to give your best smile on stage!

Centennial Smiles wishes all future graduate the best in the many years to come! If you’re looking to get some teeth whitening done, there’s no better time than the present! Call us today at (587) 317-7959 to book an appointment!
