Get Your Smile Ready for Graduation

Graduation time is almost here! You’ve worked hard these past few years to get to where you are today, and should take pride in all that you’ve accomplished as you cross the stage towards your university degree. Ensure that this special day is made memorable by approaching it with your best face forward!

Preparing Your Smile

Want to ensure that your smile is perfect for the cameras as you walk the stage? Tooth whitening is a popular treatment for many reasons, but most of them boil down to increased aesthetic appeal. Whiter teeth reveal how much care you invest in your oral health, and can also provide a boost to your confidence. For best results, teeth whitening should start as early as possible so the treatment has time to do its work. Although a quick internet search will garner a myriad of ways that promise to give instant results, most of these won’t work the way you want. Speaking to your oral healthcare professional about your options is the best way to proceed and ensure effective and safe results.

The Night Before

Feeling rushed for time? Not to worry, for there are still plenty of steps you can take to ensure a clean set of teeth for your graduation day without the need for months of preparation. Avoid eating any heavily dyed or coloured foods a few days prior. These include drinks like coffee and fruit juices. Stains can linger on tooth enamel and are difficult to scrub off in a short amount of time, affecting the perceived whiteness of teeth. Take extra care to make sure you’re brushing your teeth twice a day, and that you spend at least 2 minutes each time you brush. Flossing will remove plaque caught in between teeth, which can lead to red and inflamed gums if left unchecked. Finally, use mouthwash to round out a clean mouth by swishing away any lingering germs.

The Big Day

The big day is finally here! Pick out cooler colours to compliment a whiter smile, as warmer colours will bring out tones of yellow in teeth. Black graduation gowns do you a favour here by really making the whites in your teeth stand out. Again, avoid anything heavily coloured or dyed, and give your teeth a quick scrub in the morning to ensure they’re shining. Take care to not have any leftover dinner hanging around! Finally, consider bringing a small oral hygiene with you for quick touch ups later in the day.
