How Long Does The Invisalign Process Take?

Are you looking to try Invisalign to straighten your teeth?

You probably are wondering how long the process takes. Normally, it can take 1-2 years to see  the final results. But it can also take as quickly as 6 months.

Several factors can affect the treatment duration.

Invisalign uses customized plastic aligners to move the teeth to their proper position. You need  to wear these trays for at least 22 hours a day to see progress as planned.

Factors that can impact the Invisalign process

You may complete your treatment within months or at least a year. Here are factors that can  affect its duration.

● Specific condition. Invisalign is a solution for various bite issues, such as crowding, gaps,  and overbite (your upper teeth overlapping your lower teeth). Minor issues may see  shorter treatment periods while more complicated ones may take longer to correct. The  condition of your teeth can also affect how long you’ll need to wear your aligners each  day. After a comprehensive examination with your dentist, you’ll learn more about the  estimated treatment period for your case.

● Age. It’s easier to reposition teeth if the mouth is still developing. This is also why it’s  common to see teens wear orthodontic devices. But this doesn’t mean that adults can  no longer have their teeth straightened. However, chances are your treatment will take  longer.

● Commitment. The aligners won’t work if you don’t wear them. It’s crucial to follow  instructions from your dentist to see the progress you’re looking forward to achieving.

You also need to replace your trays as planned. Every aligner follows up on the progress  you made from the previous one, so not using your aligners can extend your treatment  period.

How to shorten your treatment period

Your role is important in ensuring that your Invisalign treatment goes as planned and in the shortest time possible.

● Follow your dentist’s instructions. Your aligners may feel uncomfortable at first but this  is temporary. Once you get used to them, you’ll be able to speak, laugh, and smile as  usual. You can remove your aligners when eating and brushing, but be sure to put them  back on right after.

● Take care of your aligners. Be careful where you’re storing your aligners when not in  use. Avoid dropping them or getting them crushed. Keep them safe in a dedicated  container so they don’t pick up dirt and debris.

● Clean your aligners regularly too. Food particles can cling onto them. Deep clean them  at least once or twice a week to keep them in good condition.

● Switch on time. Change your aligners on time and see your dentist regularly for follow up checks. This is also a great opportunity to discuss concerns you may have.
