Living With Dental Anxiety

Many people live with a fear of the dentist or dental procedures and it’s nothing to be embarrassed about. There are many reasons and triggers that cause dental anxiety. For some people, a previous traumatic experience is what led to their fear. Some people are extremely afraid of needles or of having any dental procedure.

We all know that avoiding your dentist appointments often leads to larger dental problems that require emergency treatment and often expensive intervention. This is why it is very important to identify what causes your fears, and for you to share this with your dentist.

The mouth is the gateway to your body so you want to do everything you can to ensure your teeth and gums are getting the proper attention.

At Centennial Smiles dental we want to ease our patient’s fears. We offer sedation for dentistry to our patients who are anxious during dental office appointments.

With oral sedation and IV sedation you will receive your necessary dental care safely, comfortably, and without anxiety. We only proceed with your treatment once you’re completely comfortable. When possible we try to reduce the number of dental visits by completing all treatments in a single appointment when possible.

We offer two types of Sedation for Dentistry:

Oral Conscious Sedation and IV Sedation

Oral conscious sedation medication is taken orally and is ideal for patients who fear needles. The medication is taken prior to treatment to help patients relax. With oral medication you will still be conscious but only slightly aware.

Your heart rate and blood pressure will be monitored during your procedure. Oral sedation is effective for hours. Your dentist will have completed your treatment by the time the medication wears off.

IV sedation is anesthesia administered intravenously (IV) throughout the procedure offers a deeper level of sedation. This option allows you to go into a deeply relaxed state until the procedure is done. Usually, this type of sedation isn’t for those who fear needles. Typically this type of sedation is reserved for complex surgery or very difficult procedures. At Centennial Smiles Dental we encourage you to speak up about your dental fears and anxieties so we can ensure you have the best dental experience possible. To learn more about sedation, visit the sedation page on our website. If you have any questions regarding sedation for dentistry don’t hesitate to call us today (587) 317-7959.
