Toothpaste And TikTok

A TikTok toothpaste trend exposes something interesting about our toothpaste. 

Toothpaste tubes are opaque for a reason. You probably never gave it much thought, but toothpaste purposely comes in a non-clear container. 

This summer, TikTok users have been creating pretty toothpaste dispensers to make for pleasing and functional bathroom decor. Instead of the branded tubes, they have opted for glass jars and other see-through containers. They sure look pretty but dental professionals have spoken out against this aesthetic trend. 

Dr. Tina Saw of Elevated Smiles in San Diego, explains that tooth-paste is usually in a silver tube because it’s not UV stable. When you expose toothpaste to the light it makes it less effective over time. 

It may not be pretty but toothpaste should remain in the tube where it is stored properly. If you just can’t stand the look of your toothpaste tube, the good news is, you can put it in a drawer or cupboard until it’s time to brush.
