‘Tis the season to be jolly indeed! With the holiday season right around the corner, we’re here to provide you with some fun tips and ideas to make the most of this holiday season while keeping a strong focus on oral care.
The holidays are a time of relaxation and family bonding, and sweet treats are a definite and perhaps even integral part of it all. However, all the extra candy and sugar can be hard on teeth, especially if those teeth happen to belong to younger children. Instead, try to stick to healthier alternatives, or at least candies that won’t stick around on teeth for a long time. If your child is insistent on fudge, caramel, and other sticky choices, the best way to let them enjoy these is to encourage them to brush their teeth or rinse their mouth right after. This is to get any residual sugar off their teeth, which is ultimately what’s most harmful to them.
Pack a Donations kit
The holidays are a great time to think about giving and sharing. If you’re planning on joining an event to help prepare a holiday donations kit or plan on donating to the local shelter, don’t forget to add oral hygiene items to your list! Things as simple as toothpaste and toothbrushes can really make a difference to someone else’s oral health, and such items are often found in excess around the household. Floss and alcohol-free mouthwash are also great additions to any donation package, and they can help encourage someone else to develop better oral hygiene habits.
Dental Work Over the Holidays
You’ll want to be able to enjoy the holidays to the fullest. Afterall, they only come around once a year! The last thing you need at this busy and exciting time is to be bogged down by dental work, especially if it means you can’t enjoy your favourite foods or have to spend less time with family. With that in mind, take a look at your schedule and see if you’re able to get any outstanding dental work you have planned out of the way early. And if you have a university student coming home for just a week or two, you’ll want to book now. The holidays are a busy time for us too, so plan well in advance! The sooner you’re able to get your dental work done, the sooner you’ll be able to enjoy your time off in full.
Centennial Smile wishes all of our patients the best of times this festive season, and a gentle reminder to not be too hard on your teeth! If you have a dental appointment you need to make, call us today at (587) 317‑7959!
